FUPE SYSTEMS ENDORSES SKYWAVE LRIT SYSTEM
Aukra, NORWAY and Ottawa, Canada, March 16, 2009 -
FUPE Systems AS (“FUPE”), a provider of satellite, radio, data, GSM and software engineering solutions, today announced its agreement to support the SkyWave Mobile Communication Inc. (“SkyWave”) Long Range Identification Tracking (“LRIT”) solution.
FUPE was selected as one of test ASPs for Norway by the Norwegian Maritime Directorate. Fupe is also the test ASP for the Flag of Barbados and Sierra Leone. As a test ASP, FUPE is responsible for initial testing of ship terminals to verify their compliance with International Maritime Organization’s LRIT specifications.

LRIT regulations came into force on January 1, 2008. Vessels found to be non-compliant with IMO specifications may be denied entry to territorial waters or ports and face significant fines. Information collected by LRIT Data Centers can be used by Flag authorities for vessel traffic monitoring, transport planning, locating vessels in distress and monitoring vessels involved in illegal activities.
